Consignment Director - American Art

SUMMARY: This position is responsible for evaluating property, acquiring consignments, building relationships, generating and responding to leads, participating with catalog production and sales processes, among other duties.

LOCATION: Park Ave at 56th

COMPENSATION: Commensurate based on experience. $80K - $120K

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties as may be assigned.

· Evaluate property and establish auction estimates.

· Acquire consignments both through Heritage-generated and individually-generated leads.

· Assist with authenticity evaluations.

· Assist in writing essays.

· Assist in proofing catalogs and other material.

· Market the property in auctions to clients.

· Contribute to the expansion of the client database.

· Answer inquiries before, during, and after the auction.

· Travel as needed to meet with clients and review the property for potential consignment.

· Actively participate in auctions.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

· 5+ years experience in a major auction house preferred and/or as a commercial dealer focusing on American Art; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· The ideal candidate is a go-getter, outgoing, self-motivated, and professional.

· Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, ability to multitask, pay attention to detail, have a positive attitude, and good customer service skills.

· Work well with a team

· Ability to follow set standards and take direction

· Ability to analyze and propose solutions to problems

· Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-project, and dynamic environment

· Absolute drive to complete projects on time and in a detailed manner

· Excellent organizational skills: accurate and thorough
