SUMMARY: The Accounting Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements.  The Accounting Manager directs and develops staff to achieve departmental objectives. This position reports to the Controller.
 
Responsibilities:
  •  Plans and organizes accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end closes.
  • Ensures timely reporting of various managerial financial information required by the organization.
  • Manages, mentors, and guides a team of three staff accountants.
  • Ensures the department is complying with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Controls, manages, reviews, changes, improves, alters or otherwise evaluates and corrects any policy, process, procedure or activity in the efficient production financial statements and any related audit by any federal, state or local authority.
  • Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
  • Oversees timely and accurate borrowing base reporting in compliance with the company’s credit agreement.
  • Advises and assists with IT system implementations.
  • Identifies training needs of the team and actively encourages staff to take courses or pursue certifications where appropriate.
 
Duties:
  • Prepares general journal entries, financial analyses and reconciliations as may be required.
  • Reviews preliminary financial statements and reconciliations, identifies and resolves inaccuracies or imbalances.
  • Maintains the month-end close checklist.
  • Assists the Controller with special projects including managerial reporting.
  • Collaborates with the other accounting department managers to support overall department goals and objectives
  • Assists the Controller with annual audits, bank audits and statutory audits of international offices.
  • Approves staff’s timesheets and time off requests, composes and performs annual performance reviews and provides positive feedback and any necessary constructive feedback to staff.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting or Finance required; Master’s Degree, CPA or CPA Candidate preferred
  • A minimum of 10+ years of experience in accounting and finance roles and a  minimum of 5 years’ experience in a supervisory position preferred
  • Experience in a multi-company environment is preferred
 
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Proficient with Excel and general ledger systems and software, with a preference for Microsoft GP
  • Must be able to multi-task and adjust to new situations quickly; must have excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written; must have a proven ability to recruit, lead, mentor, evaluate and develop staff
  • Should have broad knowledge of various aspects of general accounting such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, cash flow, sales tax, revenue and expenditure analysis, etc.
  • Must be extremely detail- oriented and have a positive attitude
